Why We Swap Retinol for Lytic in the Summer

As we move into spring and summer, one of the most common adjustments I make in my clients’ routines is transitioning off retinol and onto Lytic Tx.

Not because retinol is bad — it’s one of the most effective ingredients we have for improving skin — but because it’s not always the best fit for increased sun exposure.

The Problem with Retinol in Warmer Months

Retinol works by speeding up cell turnover, which is what makes it so effective for:

  • fine lines

  • acne

  • texture

  • uneven tone

But that same process also makes your skin more sensitive to UV exposure.

In the summer, when you’re naturally spending more time outside, this can lead to:

  • increased irritation

  • redness

  • dehydration

  • and a higher risk of pigmentation if the skin becomes compromised

Even with SPF, it’s just not always the most supportive option for this season.

Why Lytic Tx Is a Better Fit

Lytic Tx works differently.

Instead of aggressively increasing turnover, it focuses on keeping the skin clear, smooth, and balanced in a way that’s much more supportive of your barrier.

It helps:

  • refine texture (think: softening fine lines)

  • keep pores clear

  • reduce congestion

  • support overall skin clarity

And most importantly -

👉 it does not increase photosensitivity the way retinol does

That means your skin can still improve without becoming more reactive to the sun.

What This Means for Your Skin

Switching to Lytic during the summer allows you to:

  • continue working on texture + early aging

  • maintain clear, balanced skin

  • avoid unnecessary irritation

  • protect your progress instead of risking setbacks

It’s not about stopping your results -

it’s about adjusting your approach so your skin stays consistent year-round.

What to Pair It With

For best results, Lytic Tx should be paired with:

  • a supportive cleanser

  • barrier-supporting hydration (like Renewal Facial Lotion)

  • and daily SPF

This keeps your skin balanced, protected, and still moving forward.

The Bottom Line

Good skin isn’t about doing the most —

it’s about doing what makes sense for your skin right now.

Retinol has its place.

Summer just isn’t always it.

Lytic gives you a way to keep your results going without compromising your skin.
